TSA PreCheck Touchless ID Rollout
We launched and rapidly scaled TSA PreCheck Touchless ID integration in the Southwest app, allowing customers to verify their identity using facial recognition instead of physical documents at security checkpoints.
Starting with Denver as our pilot airport, we expanded to 16 airports in just three months: Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, Charlotte, Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, LAX, Minneapolis, LaGuardia, Oakland, Portland, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington DCA.
The team continuously improved the experience, including enhanced name-matching logic to reduce opt-in errors. Customers simply scan their passport in the app, opt in, and future eligible flights are ready for the faster Touchless ID lanes.
From single-airport pilot to 16 airports nationwide—eliminating the need to show ID or boarding pass at security checkpoints.
